At Ye Olde Faire

The whole family and a few friends went to the KY Renaissance Faire, a favorite of the kids. There were a lot of new games and attractions there this year, and the weather was beautiful. This was Joshua’s first fair and Sarah’s first where she could actually walk around and enjoy it.

We got to play, see a few shows and even enjoy the Tournament (complete with Jousting)!

It was also fun to see all of the people dressed up in various costumes. There were faries and pirates and knights and priests all over the place!

Summer Saturday

It’s 90 degrees and bright and sunny, so the kids wanted to come to the zoo. Ours has a water park that’s free to members so they took bathing suits “just in case” … so we saw three animals and then straight to the water! Lots of fun!

Take me out to the ballgame

Since the boys have been playing baseball this year, they really appreciated seeing the home team play. A home run in the first inning and a few foul balls bouncing nearby kept things interesting. Also, the playground inside the park helped. They still don’t know all the words to sing during the 7th inning stretch, but they are starting to enjoy the game a lot more now. They even went down to the dugout to get autographs after the game. Pretty cool.

Summer’s Here?

Well, after a week and more of digging and leveling a spot in the yard, the pool is up, so it must be summer. The first day it was filled and the water was 67 and the boys “just had to” climb in.

They were brave, though, and played around for almost ten minutes before giving up to let it warm up for a few days.

Fun In The Summertime

Several people have commented how it’s been a while since we posted. Well here is your summertime update from the family.

Sarah and Jordan are both getting bigger (like that’s a surprise) and Sarah is now talking – what a little chatterbox.

Sarah has developed a fascination with putting things on her head – in this picture she had gotten hold of Jordan’s pirate hat from last year’s Halloween costume. Below, you’ll see a set of swim goggles on her head. She also has worn just about all of daddy’s hats, several necklaces, and a pan. Ribbons – not so much.

For the 4th of July, we went to our friends house and enjoyed a huge picnic and fireworks. We were concerned that Sarah would not like the loud noise, but she was even more eager than Jordan to see them. She especially liked the loud bangs and booms. We are now really worried about what her teenage years will be like – between her and her brothers, we may all go deaf, or at least need to increase our insurance.

Later in July, we went the Kentucky Highland Renaissance Faire, which has now become an annual family tradition. Jordan is really in his element with the swords and bows-and-arrows and medieval costumes all over the place. It’s a fun and affordable family day out and we really enjoy it every year.

Jordan got to try out the archery and the ladder climb during the afternoon (we had to pull Sarah away from the bows and arrows forcibly).

Sarah has continued to grow and blossom. It is really amazing, but it seems like she has never been anywhere but here at home. She is a precocious two-year-old just like every other.

We occasionally get comments about how wonderful we are to have adopted this little girl and how special we are and so on. What those people can’t know is that we’re not so special – instead we are really the fortunate ones to have the blessing of this little girl in our lives. People ask what the process cost or how long it took – the answer is the cost was nothing compared to what we have received.

So now we have turned the corner of summer and are heading full speed into the fall. Jordan went to soccer evaluations this weekend and he’ll be playing until the mornings are chilly. Our 6-month post placement interview is this week — time really flies when you’re having fun!

Summer’s Here

Summer is here, and Sarah has had her first birthday party at home. She seemed to take the whole thing in stride as if to say “we should have cake and bouncy castles every day”.

She’s also now really starting to talk – even the words she shouldn’t say. She recently picked up a gem from some very loud people at a late night party across the hall in a hotel. Like a super-genius, she just echoed that F word. Nice.

For his part, Jordan is quite happy to be “on holiday” from school. Like any school boy, he was counting the days until the break. He stared at 8 weeks and went by weeks until there were 28 days left and then it was a daily ritual as he got on the bus – you know I only have 21 days of school left until summer vacation.

So now summer is here – all sweaty and sun burning. But we are definitely loving life!
